A WORD FROM THE AUTHOR
"One of my favorite things about Little India are the flower stalls that line Tekka Market. A cacophony of colours and smells, they are a treat to the senses. The only thing I love more is watching the sellers tie their garlands. Gosh, the speed! Their fingers have a mind of their own, spinning string around flowers, pulling them into garlands of all colours - while they themselves stay busy attending to customers or chatting about the local gossip.
Every time I walk by, it brings me back to my own memories as a child spending my holidays at my grandparent's place in India. Watching my grandmother make garlands, my fascination led to me nagging all the grown-ups who would spare a moment to stop and teach me how to tie flowers too. I think in many ways Li Mei's frustrations mirror my own - it was SO hard. But I was told (repeatedly) to slow down and by the end of my holidays, I was able to tie a string of flowers together! YAY! (Well, they were reasonably close.)
I had a wonderful friendship with my grandparents and have always loved stories that bring together children and seniors. Knots of Love will be sure to have you (re)connecting with the special seniors in your life, too!"
